Judge Patrick H. Mathews

Judge Patrick H. Mathews, 71, of Venice, FL, formerly of Syracuse, NY, passed away on August 12, 2013. Patrick was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. In 1968-1969 he was a Defense Attorney for the first Marine Division Da Nang, South Vietnam. In 1969-1970 he was Chief Prosecutor fifth Naval District Norfolk, VA, and from 1970-1973 Legal Aide Society in Mineola, NY. He was the Broome County District Attorney from 1981-1986 and Broome County Court Judge from 1987-2007. His hobbies included riding his scooter around the island, setting to the sea in his boat with loved ones, playing poker, golf, and tennis. He enjoyed downhill skiing around the world. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Mathews, of Venice, FL; daughter, Marielle Mathews of San Jose, CA; brothers Richard and Joseph (Patricia) Mathews, sister Mary Yeomans; brother-in-law Robert (Mary Alice) Krenrich; and 13 beloved nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, August 17th from 1-3PM at Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and the Moffitt Cancer Center.
