Karen Marie Ginn

Karen Marie Ginn was called home to The Lord on May 7, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with Dementia and Parkinson’s Syndrome. She was at home in Venice, Fl. with her husband, Bill, when The Angels came. Karen was born February 4, 1943 in Sidney, Oh to John Jacob and Ellean Elizabeth Davis and was the third born and eldest daughter of six children. She is predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Raymond, Joseph, and Frank. She is survived by sister, Elizabeth and brother, Michael. Karen is also survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John W.(Bill) Ginn and their three beloved daughters, Holly Maggio (Chip) of Akron, Oh., Sandra Putman (Shawn) of Wilson, NC, and Mary Collins (Joseph) of Ft. Wayne, In. She will be missed by six grandchildren, Heather Schnurr (Jay), Mitchell Maggio, and Katie, Sarah, Emily, and Andrew Collins, as well as two great-grandsons, Jonathan and Logan Schnurr. Karen was a member of the 1961 graduating class from Holy Angels High School in Sidney and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, Fl. Karen and Bill were High School sweethearts and were married at Holy Angels Catholic Church, in Sidney, in August of 1963. Soon after Bill began his career with The Sherwin Williams Co. in Alliance, Oh, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Holly in 1965. The new family began a series of business-related relocations and Karen became the devoted stay-at-home mother who made sure that everyone stayed connected as a family every step of the way. After moving to Charleston, WV, daughter Sandra was born in 1967, and Mary joined them there in 1968. Subsequent moves took the family to Marion, Oh, South Bend, In, Eastlake, OH, Ft. Wayne, In, and Cleveland, Oh. With every relocation, Karen was challenged to begin anew making a home and providing a secure and nurturing environment for her family and she never wavered. She was our rock of stability and the adhesive that held us all together and, in short, was the one who made it all possible. Along the way, Karen found the time to act as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, assist various local charities, serve as Beta Sigma Phi Queen, and become involved in many aspects of the various communities the family called home. She loved to knit and sew, was a marvelous cook, and spent several years as a very successful Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. Karen loved bowling (And has the trophies to prove it) and was an accomplished swimmer who enjoyed boating and water skiing. Karen and Bill shared a love of Golf and held a membership in Tanglewood Golf and CC in Chagrin Falls, Oh and have been active members of Plantation Golf and CC in Venice, Fl since their retirement in 2002. They enjoyed Country Club life to its fullest and their happy retirement also included Cruising and trips to Europe. The happiest days however, were those spent with family and especially those grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Karen was a beautiful, sweet, kind, and gracious lady with a quick wit and unconditional love and devotion to family and friends. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her and her family will revere her memory forever. The rock is solid and the adhesive is firmly set. Karen has simply gone on ahead once more to prepare for her family’s arrival. Karen was a lifelong member of The Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM. Friday, May 13 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Plantation Country Club. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Venice, The Plantation Community Foundation, or a Charity of choice in Karen’s name.
