Kenneth Cottrill

Kenneth Edwin Cottrill was born on November 11, 1934 and spent the first 58 years of his life in New Jersey. He married his high school sweetheart Lois, after graduating, and had 2 children, daughter Diane, and son David. He spent his career as a glazier, installing glass in commercial buildings for Boss Glass Company in Dover. Working in the construction industry, Ken could build or fix virtually anything, and was constantly busy doing ""projects"" around the house. He was an avid bowler, and was eventually inducted into the Essex County Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his tireless service. Due to his total involvement with his children's activities, he became Scoutmaster of Troop 210 in Parsippany. He loved the camping experiences and the great outdoors. He was a fine mentor to countless young boys, several of whom later became scout leaders themselves due to Ken's influences. Ken and Lois retired to Florida in 1992, where they were able to own and stable their own horses. Taking care of two horses and 5 acres of land seemed hardly like retirement. They also bred Yorkshire Terrier dogs, and enjoyed showing at dog shows all over the state, where they won numerous prestigious awards. Retirement also afforded Ken extra time to pursue another long-awaited hobby, becoming a radio-controlled model airplane pilot. He loved building and flying his planes with his son by his side. Ken and Lois were regular attendees of their local church, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Venice, Florida, and volunteered for various functions whenever possible. Ken was an extremely humble, honest, generous man with a keen wit and great sense of humor. He always had kind things to say, always had a smile for everyone, and everyone always had a smile for him. His declining health over his last 3 years may have slowed him down, but never changed his kindness, generosity or good spirits. He passed away peacefully the evening of July 1, 2013, and will be greatly missed by anyone who had the good fortune to know him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois, and his two children, daughter Diane Olsen of Parsippany N.J., his son David and daughter-in-law Marianne Cottrill of Venice FL. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer Olsen of Parsippany NJ.
