LaVergne Florence Lutiger

LaVergne Florence Lutiger, cherished mother, grandmother, and beloved friend passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026 in Venice Fl at the age of 101. She was born April 11, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Matthew and Sophie Specht, where she lived a long and remarkable life that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laurette, son , Jim (Sheila) granddaughters Sarah and Catie (Andrew) and great granddaughters, Estelle and Mollie.  Preceding her in death were her parents Matthew and Sophie Specht, her husband Jim (Bud) and daughters Mary and Jill, also brothers Ronald and Larry.

LaVergne’s legacy is not measured only in her longevity but by the countless ways she enriched the lives of family and friends through her kindness, humor and generosity. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her journey began in Chicago where her early years shaped her into a person of enduring warmth, wisdom and kindness. She was a child of the depression and always eager to help those in need. Above all, she valued family and friends. LaVergne was a degreed registered nurse who started her career as an army cadet in WWII. She worked as a surgical nurse in several Chicago area hospitals and finished her career as a much beloved elementary school nurse.

Her family and friends mourn her passing and will forever carry her love in their hearts.

Mass of Christian Burial Sept 18th 2026 St Raymond De Penafort Catholic Church, Mt Prospect, IL

Fellowship at 10:00am followed by 11:00 am service. Lunch to follow the mass.
