Mary O’Donnell Downs, M.D., born Mary Vincentia O’Donnell, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, on July 30, 2026, in Venice, Florida, where she had made her home since retiring in 2000.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, on December 16, 1940, Mary pursued a life dedicated to learning, service, and caring for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, physician, and friend whose compassion and generosity touched countless lives.

Mary graduated from John Carroll University and later earned her medical degree from the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, now part of Drexel University College of Medicine. Throughout her distinguished career, she served as a physician at DC General Hospital and later as Medical Director for Metropolitan Bus and Rail, where she dedicated herself to the health and well-being of the organization’s employees.

Mary will be remembered for her warmth, humor, intelligence, and unwavering kindness. She had a gift for bringing people together and creating a welcoming home filled with laughter, conversation, and love. She enjoyed reading, gardening, theater, cooking, and sharing meals with family and friends.

Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, and she lived with grace, humility, and compassion.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James O’Donnell and Angeline O’Donnell, and her sister, Ellen O’Donnell.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, William Downs; her son, John Fevrier; her beloved granddaughter, Raquelle Fevrier; her daughters, Erica Downs (Scot) and Valerie Revia; her grandchildren, Bridget Becker, Connor Dunne (Hannah), Shannon Dunne, and Colleen Dunne; her great-grandchildren, Kyler Kennedy and Mackenzie Becker; her sister, Margaret O’Donnell Stock, M.D.; and her brother, John O’Donnell, M.D. (Jane).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.

Mary’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the family she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
