Mary E. Simmons Hafler

Mary Hafler, age 90 passed away Friday evening August 26, 2016 while at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota Florida. She was ready to be with her brother Hubert Pierson Jr. and two sisters Yvonne Durham and Peggy Hill who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her spouses John Howard Simmons Sr. and Orland “Bill” Hafler. Surviving are her two sons, John H. Simmons Jr (Patricia) of North Port, Florida and Thomas L. Simmons (Reva) of Cape Coral, Florida. Five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren all residing in Ohio. Mary was born and raised in Elkview, WV. Shortly after her marriage to John Simmons in 1946, they moved to Columbus, Ohio where she lived for the next fifty years. She then retired and returned to her home town of Elkview, WV until 2012 which at that time she moved to North Port, Florida to live with her son and his wife. Mary loved life to the fullest and did not let her impaired vision keep her down. She was always ready to go anywhere you would take her. She was still going strong at 90 but during the last six months of her life she slowed down after she broke her hip. A memorial celebration of her life will be held in Ohio during the month of October 2016. Time and location will be determined at a later date.
