Born in Portsmouth, OH , Mazie Gills was brought up in a loving home. During her early years she faithfully attended church and earned the highest Girl Scout Award, the Golden Eaglet. She attended Ohio State University where she joined the Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) sorority. She also met her husband, Ralph, to whom she was married for 64 years. Mazie graduated from OSU with a teaching degree and taught elementary school in Trenton and Riverview schools south of Detroit, mostly kindergarten. She also continued her education earning a Master of Arts in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University while living in Trenton, MI. She enjoyed playing the piano and started her two children in music. Both Mazie and Ralph were accomplished travelers. They traveled the world and enjoyed each other's company. She lived her recent life in Venice, FL, and enjoyed the history and culture of the area. She will be interred in Pearl Cemetery, Sidney, OH. Preceded in death were her parents, Edmund & Bertha Gills and her husband, Ralph Quigley. She was survived by Paul (Mary Ellen) Quigley, and Janet (James) Dake. She had four grandchildren, Pamela Quigley-Jones & Karen Quigley, Ken (Heather) Dake & Jennifer (Nathan) Jessee and also nine great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 23 at Grace United Methodist Church. In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to: Grace United Methodist Church, 400 E. Field Ave., Venice, FL 34285 OR Shriners' Hospital for Children, C/O Recorder SAHIB Shrine Center, 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota , FL 34232.
