Michael J. Auclair, 63, of North Port, passed away May 30, 2015. He was born in Uxbridge, MA on August 12, 1951 to Eldore and Catherine (Benjamin) Auclair, and moved from Massachusetts to North Port, FL in the early 1970s. Michael served His country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He married Arlene Nellie Cofferen 1989.
Michael earned his Fire Science and BS in management degree from Manatee Community College and a business degree from International College. He also earned his Executive Fire Officer certification from the National Fire Academy. Michael began his fire service career at South Trail Fire Dept. in 1976, transferring to the North Port Fire Dept. in 1985, where he was awarded Firefighter of the Year. Working his way up through the ranks, Michael became Chief of the North Port Fire Department in 1997, a post he held until his retirement in 2002. He was also a member of American Legion Post 254.
Michael enjoyed fishing, playing men's softball, riding ATV's, and going mudding with his son, Michael.
Survivors include his loving wife Arlene of North Port; son, Michael E. Auclair; daughter, Kandie M. Auclair, Milford, MA; sisters, Kimberly Kerk and Karin Dyer of Grand Junction, CO, and Patricia Omelia of Uxbridge, MA, and brothers Timothy O'Rourke and Charlie Hutchin of Grand Junction, CO.
Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday, June 7 at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel, with a Prayer Service at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday, June 8 at San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Michael J. Auclair Memorial Fund at 5/3 Bank of North Port. Visitation Information
