Moira Mccarrens Langille

Moira McCarrens Langille, 79, of Venice, Florida, passed away on November 6, 2016 at Doctor's Hospital of Sarasota with her family by her side after a lengthy period of failing health. She lived in Venice since 1993 and has summered in Ipswich, Massachusetts since 2000. Moira's love and compassion for people, her gift for making friends, her sense of humor, and her passion for art, travel and history will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She was wonderful conversationalist, a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, and a talented artist who enjoyed interior decorating and designing beaded necklaces. She will be dearly missed. Born on January 21, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, Moira was the eldest of four daughters of the late Arthur D. McCarrens and Constance Alexander McCarrens, both of Cleveland, Ohio. Moira grew up in the Shaker Heights district of Cleveland and attended Beaumont High School in Cleveland Heights. Every summer for more than 50 years, she would travel to her family's summer home on Salter's Point in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. In 1958, Moira graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York with a B.A. in psychology. After a career as a Title I special education teacher in Amesbury, Massachusetts, where she was a longtime resident, Moira earned a licensed practical nursing degree in 1985 at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She worked at Amesbury Hospital from 1985 to 1993. Upon retirement in 1993, she and her husband, Moyle ""Duke"" Langille, began wintering in Venice and became permanent residents. Moira and Duke enjoyed traveling to cities abroad such as Paris, Rome and London, and were aficionados of Broadway theater in New York City where they held a timeshare and visited annually. Moira was a docent at The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota from 2000 to 2010 where she primarily conducted tours of Ca' d'Zan, John and Mable Ringling's 56-room mansion. In addition, Moira was a devoted practitioner of yoga and established a close network of friends within the Venice yoga community. Moira is survived by her husband of 36 years, Moyle ""Duke"" Langille; three sisters, Katherine M. Brady and her husband Philip H. Brady of Naples, Florida, and Duxbury, Massachusetts, Constance McCarrens of Delray Beach, Florida, and Megan McCarrens of Hamilton, Massachusetts; three children, Mark A. Connolly and his wife Leila Kontos Connolly of Norfolk, Massachusetts, Rebecca Connolly Hackler and her husband Jason Hackler of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and Paull W. Connolly and his wife Stephanie Nelson Connolly of Carlsbad, California; three step-children, Valerie Howard and her husband Daniel Howard of Chelsea, Maine, Vickie Langille of Costa Mesa, California, and Michael Langille of Dupo, Illinois; five grandchildren, Melina and Tyler Connolly of Norfolk, Massachusetts, Eliza Hackler of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and Grant and Makena Connolly of Carlsbad, California; two step-grandsons, Brian Howard and his wife Erin Howard of Hallowell, Maine, and Nicholas Howard and his wife Angela Howard of Gardiner, Maine; four great-grandsons, Nicholas and Mason Howard of Hallowell, Maine, and Evan and Logan Howard of Gardiner, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her step-daughter, Collette Langille of Everett, Massachusetts. A private gathering will be held in Venice, Florida and another celebration of Moira's life will be held this spring in New England, to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Moira's honor to the charity of your choice.
