Philip John Danaher, age 82, of Venice, Florida went home to the Lord on January 9, 2017. Phil was born October 9, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a first generation American whose parents emigrated from southwest Ireland. He is preceded in death by parents, John Danaher and Mary Costello Danaher as well as brother, Timothy Danaher. Mr. Danaher was a man of many talents. He was employed by the Voice of America (USIA) for 30+ years as a radio engineer and manager. He was acknowledged for exemplary service. He served as union president for the local, where he was known for his commitment to seek justice for others. Before joining the government, Mr. Danaher worked for the United Nations and several TV/radio stations. His career offered the opportunity to meet a variety of public officials which intersected with his keen interest in American history. As hobbies, Mr. Danaher developed both carpentry and mechanic skills, which he put to use benefiting his family and home. Mr. Danaher was a man of strong faith. He was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Irish Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick. He participated in his wife's ministries, especially the Angels of Waterford. Mr. Danaher is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy Shea Danaher, as well as daughters Peggy and MaryAnn, sons Phil and Dan, daughter-in-law Sharon, ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. His family was the center of his life. Mr. Danaher's life was a celebration of faith, decency, and productiveness. A mass of burial will be held on January 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to one of the following: The Epiphany Cathedral Memorial Gardens, Tidewell Hospice of Venice, or The Outreach ministry of Epiphany Cathedral.
