Robert Joseph Kubas, 81, of Venice, FL, passed away on January 4, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda, and their son, Robert Jr. (Allison) and grandson, Griffin. He was the son of the late Albert and Jennie Kubas of Clearwater, FL. Robert was born and raised in central Connecticut, graduated from New BritainHigh School, GeorgetownUniversity in Washington, D.C. with a BS in Biology and a MA in Physical Chemistry from the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, CT. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1987 and to Venice, FL in 1998. He is also survived by a sister, Judith (Horst) Zerber of West Simsbury, CT, brother-in-law Philip (Karen) Ziel of Lebanon, CT, and several nieces and a nephew. He was employed as a State of Connecticut Toxicological Chemist, at United Technology and Clairol, Inc. as a Senior Research Chemist, at Burroughs Welcome as a Group Leader in pharmaceutical R&D, at Davis & Geck and Baxter Travenol as a Senior Packaging Engineer. At United Technology his work included fuel cell development for the Apollo Lunar Project and reverse osmosis for the sea water purification project. At David & Geck Robert was awarded two patents in microsurgery and neurosurgery. After retirement, he was an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at State College of Florida in Venice, FL for 13 years. His military service was with the United States Army Judge Advocate and the Medical Corp. A Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Venice, FL on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11AM. A military inurnment will follow at SarasotaNationalCemetery at 2PM. Farley Funeral Homes & Crematory is handling arrangements. Contributions may be sent in his name to the American Cancer Society.
