Robert Harold "Bob" Matley

Robert “Bob” Harold Matley, 90, of Venice, Florida, died peacefully Tuesday July 22, 2014 of natural causes. Bob was born on September 27, 1923 in Akron, Ohio to Robert George and Beatrice Matley. He had two brothers, William Matley and Myron Burnes. Bob served us all and his country in WW2 in the Naval Branch of the Armed Forces. Upon returning, he met and married Jean Marie, the love of his life on October 19, 1946. Bob was known by all for his tireless work ethic and love for his family. His 68 year marriage to Jean Marie taught his family the true definition of marriage; complete love and dedication. His marriage to Jean has to be his biggest accomplishment. His love for her is what we all dream of getting out of life. Their four children and countless grandchildren and great granchildren always knew he was there for them for love and guidance. Though he officially retired from Leonard Tool and Die, where he was truly loved and admired, and relocated to Florida, his work ethic had him working well into his 80’s. This made him happy, interesting and full of life. Bob is survived by his wife Jean Marie Matley, of Venice Florida; Son Bob Matley and wife Karen; Daughter Patricia Maguran and husband Terry; Daughter Susan Baker and husband Jerry; and Son Richard Matley and wife Jodi, all of Michigan. Grandchildren Wendy Bergman, Alan Molnar, Joseph Matley, Gregory Matley, Carly Proimos and Danielle Matley. Great Granchildren Griffin,Molly and Cameron Matley; Alyssa and Jessie Bergman; Makenzie, Ashton, Christian and Bella Molnar; Artil Matley; and Grace Proimos. Bob was predeceased by his parents Robert George and Beatrice Matley, and both brothers William Matley and Myron Burnes. His wishes were for no funeral service to be held and to be laid to rest at the VA Cemetery in FL. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday November 25 at Sarasota National Cemetery.
