Ronald James “Jim” Childs, age 80, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Sparta, New Jersey, died on February 15, 2013 in Venice, Florida. He was born in Toronto, Canada on August 7, 1932. He served as a pilot in the RCAF. After leaving the service, Jim was a pilot for United Airlines, retiring in 1992.
Jim enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoyed biking, boating, and flying. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Irene, of Venice; son Steven Childs (Jean) of Marietta, GA; daughter Marilyn Rhude of Sandwich, MA; step children Barbara Fox (Russell) of Mooresville, NC and Kathleen Gianniti of Milford, CT; grandchildren Mackenzie, Ryan, Paul James, Christopher, and Lauren, and brother Edward Childs (Leslie) of Amherst, Nova Scotia. Jim is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret.
A memorial gathering will be held at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, on Sunday, March 3rd. Visitation 2 ââ"" 3 PM; service at 3 PM.
