Shirley Edna Messier passed away August 2, 2017, at 88 years old. She was surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in Rhode Island, living there as a child until moving to North Attleboro, Massachusetts where she grew up and attended school , graduating from North Attleboro High School. She married Arthur Messier in 1950, raised three children, and shared their life together 51 years until his death in 2001. The family moved to St. Petersburg Florida in 1962. Shirley was a homemaker whose talents included sewing, knitting and painting. She and Arthur were avid golfers and belonging to both Tides Golf Club in Seminole, Florida and Lake Chatuge Golf Club in Hayesville, North Carolina. Other activities she enjoyed with friends were bowling, bingo, and MahJong. She is survived by a daughter, Robin Messier of Atlanta, GA, ; two sons Mark Messier of Clearwater, FL and Doug Messier, daughter in-law Marie, grandson Doug Messier Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 2pm at Farley Funeral Home - North Port Chapel.
