Susan Whipple Bissell died September 29, 2016. Born in Suffield, Connecticut in 1923, she attended local schools and graduated from Suffield Academy in 1941. She then attended Briarcliff Jr. College, graduated in 1943, and was subsequently employed by the Hartford Times, where she worked on the editorial staff for many years.
In 1947 Susan was married to Gilbert Bissell, also a Suffield resident. The couple had three children: a son and two daughters. They lived in West Hartford, CT. Early in the 1960's they were divorced.
In her young adult years, Susan resumed her education as a part-time student at the University of Connecticut, where she completed her B.A. degree with a major in Philosophy. She moved to Venice, Florida in 2004 to be near her daughter, Anne Bissell.
Susan leaves her son, Gib Bissell, and his wife, Sue, of Kalispell, Montana; her daughter, Gail Larson, and husband Dana, of Deer Park, Washington. She also leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Susan was predeceased by her daughter, Anne, in 2009.
A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Center Road, Venice, Florida at 11AM on Saturday, October 8th with a reception to follow.
