Thomas Silengo

Tom Silengo, 68, of Venice, Florida (originally of North Haven, Connecticut), passed peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018 surrounded by the love of family and friends after a 30 month battle with brain cancer. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years Suzanne (Fortino) Silengo, sons Matthew Silengo of San Diego, California, and Brian Silengo of Arlington, Virginia. Tom also leaves behind his siblings Bill (Elaine) Silengo of North Haven, Connecticut, John Silengo of White Pine, Tennessee, and Mary (Barry) Silengo Sheldon of Venice, Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in addition to extended family members and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his parents Aldo and Edel Silengo. A long-time resident of North Haven, Tom loved sports. He played football and baseball for North Haven High School. Later, he coached Little League and was a past president of North Haven's Max Sinoway Baseball League. Tom played baseball and hockey for Quinnipiac University where he graduated with a BS degree in Accounting in 1971. His education continued at the University of New Haven where he earned an MBA in Finance in 1978. His passion for sports continued throughout his life. Tom was an off- ice official for Quinnipiac University hockey. Also, he traveled with friends across the country visiting major league baseball parks where he enjoyed games at 27 of the 30 parks. In addition to his passion for sports, Tom offered countless hours and years of support to the Ronald McDonald House as a volunteer and as Vice President and Treasurer for the charity's Board of Directors. Since retiring to Venice, Florida, Tom played tennis daily until his diagnosis in August 2015. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, and Florida Cancer Specialists in Venice, Florida, for their willingness to fight alongside of Tom for the past two and a half years. Also, we deeply appreciate the loving care and support we received from Tidewell Hospice. Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Tom's hometown of North Haven, Connecticut.
