Warren G. Olson

Warren Gerald Olson, age 92, of Nokomis, passed over at home, surrounded by his children with his Westie, Sadie, after a brief illness, on January 30, 2017. Pop spent his early years after birth in Warren, MN, and Gardner and Jolliet, IL. As an early teen, it was the depression after all; he worked for his father driving a trick, delivering coal in the winter and ice in the summer. A favorite story was of accidentally walking in on a farmer's wife taking a bath in a tub in ht kitchen. It only happened once and he never saw her again; she always left the ice money on the table for him. Pop quit school in the 11th grade along with 5 buddies to enlist for service in WWII. Warren served in the Fighting Seabees in the Pacific for the duration. After the war, Pop took advantage of the GI Bill and earned a degree at Arizona State. He was reactivated in the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. This was a fortunate turn as he was sent to Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington where he met the love of his live, Ramona Rose. They had 5 children. In 1962 Warren began his career in the Foreign Service and moved his family to Mogadiscio, Somalia. He and the family served in many posts over the years including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Uruguay. When Warren and Mona retired in 1981 they settled in Nokomis. They were very active in the community and had many treasured friends. We had over 35 years of visits and reunions at grandma's house. Mom left first 7 years ago and now Pop will join her in the memorial garden at Epiphany Cathedral after a Mass at 10 AM on Monday, February 6th. Farley Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
