Wilhelmina Bridget "Willy" Gayle
Apr 9, 1922 — May 15, 2017
Wilhelmina Bridget Gayle, formerly of North Port, Florida passed away on May 15, 2017. She leaves behind five children, two daughter in-law, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many dear friends. She was ninety-five years old at time of her passing.
Wilhelmina moved to North Port in 1986 after retiring from her position as a nurse's aide at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She was born in St. Elizabeth Township, Jamaica; she and her sister, Merlin, were the daughters of Elma Baxter. Wilhelmina married Sidney Albert Gayle in December of 1947. Sidney passed away in 2007 after 60 years of blissful marriage to Wilhelmina.
Wilhelmina, or ""Willy"" as she was known to many, was an avid reader and instilled a love of literature and the fine arts in her grandchildren. More importantly, she was a strongly religious person with a very kind heart. That kindness was infectious as evidenced by her legacy of many long term friendships she cultivated over decades. We will no longer be able see her beautiful smile, but we will always be inspired by her memory and the blueprint she left us for how to live a good life. A visitation will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Farley Funeral Home, 5900 S. Biscayne Drive in North Port. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port with burial to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens. Visitation Information
