William Robert Gaskell
Mar 8, 1942 — Oct 5, 2016
William (Bill) Robert Gaskell, 74, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away October 5, 2016, with his family by his side.
Bill was the former supervisor of mechanical repair for the Township of Nutley, New Jersey, Public Works Department. Bill was born in Newark, New Jersey, grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey, then moved to Nutley, New Jersey in 1971 until he retired and moved to Venice, Florida in 1988.
Bill was a kind, gentle man who rescued animals of all types. He loved cars and restored numerous street rods. He enjoyed watching WWE on Monday night. He had a great sense of humor and was also known for a penchant for neatness. You may, on a quiet summer night, hear 1950’s music from afar. It may be the universe playing it for Bill as he is preparing to tidy up, but then he observes a place more perfect than he could have ever envisioned.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen Lombard Gaskell; his three loving children William Robert Gaskell, Michele Gaskell (Mark) Dungan, Patricia Gaskell (Frank) Parisi; five grandchildren, Sara Carbone, Amanda Carbone, Savanna Dungan, Molly Dungan, and Adam Parisi; and one great grandson Cameron William Caulk.
Bill is also survived by his two brothers, Gary Cappetta (Veeta Pierce), Bruce (Kim) Gaskell, his loving cousin Cynthia Cofone, his sister and brother in law Carol Lombard Paul and Richard Paul, and nephews Rick and Joseph Paul.
Bill was predeceased by his parents William and Mary (Cappetta) Gaskell.
Private funeral arrangements are being made through Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida.
Donations can be made in Bill’s name to St. Francis Animal Rescue of Venice, Florida.
