William E. Wagner, Sr.

William Edward Wagner, Sr., 74, of North Port, Florida passed away Friday (June 27, 2014) at his home with his loving wife at his side after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He was born September 19, 1939 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Edward J. Wagner and Willa Barber Wagner. Bill was a 1958 graduate of St. Peter's High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Military Police. After retiring from the Army Branch of the DOD Field Artillery Division, he and his wife retired to Florida. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Joanne Wagner; his daughter Donna Miller of Virginia; son William E. Wagner, Jr. and his wife Sandi of Fairmont; and daughter Kimberly Hogue and husband JD of Georgia; 6 grandchildren, Jimmy Miller, Jordan Wagner, Maxwell Wagner, Olivia Wagner, Christine Lilly, and Ashley Hogue; 1 great-grandchild, Emily Miller. Also surviving are 4 step-children, Cherie Merrill, Laurie Franta-Gordon, Wendie Franta, andTammie Brewster and her husband Andy; 6 step-grandchildren, Tucker Andrews and his wife Breanna, Morganne Andrews, Rachael Andrews, Kiah Franta, Boone Franta-Gordon, and Willow Nelbach; and 1 step-great grandchild, Ally Andrews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte Shephard Wagner and his brother Frederick Robert Wagner. Bill loved playing cards, horseshoes, and participating in his Bible study group. He loved his Florida home but kept in touch with his West Virginia roots, following the Mountaineers and returning for his St. Peter's High School reunions. The family has entrusted Farley Funeral Home with arrangements. In keeping with his wishes, Bill has chosen cremation services. A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm on Monday, July 7th at Peace Christian Fellowship Church with the Pastor Kyle Cannon presiding. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
