Obituary for David Lee Shively
David Shively was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on June 7, 1940, to William O. and Lorene A. Shively. He spent his early years on their farm located off of Broadway in Idaho Falls. In his teenage years he lived a good part of the time at his friend's house in Blackfoot, Idaho.
At the age of fifteen, he started driving truck with a good friend delivering gas to Utah and when he turned nineteen, he joined the U.S. Army where he served our country in Germany for three years. After his return from the Army, he enrolled in college at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, majoring in Forestry.
It was while he was at ISU he met his soulmate, Judith Winchell. They were married three years later in Elko, Nevada, at the Presbyterian Church. Returning to Idaho they made their home in Ada and Canyon counties. They had a house built on the outskirts of Middleton, Idaho, where they have lived for over fifty-three years.
Dave worked for many companies during the years: among them were Brookovers, Jones Boiler and Mechanical, Morrison-Knudsen, Western Construction, Amalgamated Sugar and Antigo. By trade he became a Master Welder/ Mechanic for road construction. Dave taught Hunter Safety for years teaching the youngsters to safely follow his passion for hunting. He also loved to fish and had lots of tales to tell.
After Dave retired, he became involved with the school districts in Middleton and Notus, Idaho, where he substitute taught or just helped in the Ag welding department. Many students were taught by him and became the master welders they are today. He even taught beginners in welding at BSU.
In 2014, Dave was awarded a State FFA Degree for his involvement with FFA in the Notus School District. Dave was a member of the Middleton/ Star American Legion where he was part of the Honor Guard and was a key person in fundraising to help Veterans. He was a true patriot and proud to have served his country and to live in the United States of America.
David is survived by his spouse, Judith A.; daughter, LeeAnn Brown (Dan); son, Bill Shively (Lynn); Grandchildren, Marianne Norwood, Dalton Beasley, Colton Beasley, Paige Shively, Ashlyn Shively, and numerous great- grandchildren; sister, Carol Buckley; sister-in-law, Karen Winchell; and brother-in-law, Delbert Winterfeld. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ivan Shively; sister, June Winterfeld; brothers-in-law, Thomas Buckley and Walter Winchell; and granddaughter, Brianne Anderson.
Funeral arrangements are under Flahiff Funeral & Crematory in Caldwell, Idaho. Services are October 10, 2025 at 10:30pm with a luncheon to follow at the Elks Lodge in Caldwell, Idaho. Interment will be at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery Boise, Idaho on October 27, 2025 at 2pm.
