Lawrence Edward Dennis
Jan 21, 1934 — Nov 7, 2025
Lawrence Edward Dennis was born January 21, 1934, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to Alfred and Verla Faye Dennis. He died on the morning of November 7, 2025, passing peacefully at home. As a teen he was told he had to quit school and work full time on the family farm. Not wanting to do that, Lawrence lied about his age and joined the Army. He served in the Korean War, where he was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and Combat Infantry Badge.
Lawrence married the love of his life, Nellie Mae Tooley, in 1952. They remained married for 73 years, until his death.
He enjoyed big game hunting and fishing the area's rivers and reservoirs. He was an expert Checkers and Pinochle player and avid rockhound. On any particular day you'd find him working on a small engine in his shop or tilling in his garden.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Nellie; his children, Larry and Cindy and her four children and grandchildren, and Dan and Crystal and their six children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Clifford and his wife, Louise, and Jerry and his wife, Della, and his sister, Katie.
Always with a grin on his face and laughter in his heart, he was loved by those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:00 am at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd. in Caldwell, with a graveside service with military honors to take place immediately following at Parma Cemetery.
