Lydia Gonzalez Navarro
Aug 15, 1942 — Oct 12, 2026
August 15, 1942 – October 12, 2026
Lydia Gonzalez Navarro, 84, of Notus, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly at her home on October 12, 2026. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she leaves behind generations of family and a community filled with memories of her care, generosity, and love.
Lydia was born on August 15, 1942, in Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Enrique and Emilia Gonzalez. Her journey brought her from Mexico to Texas and then to Idaho in 1959. In Idaho, she met Eugenio Navarro, whom she married on December 12, 1960. They made their home in Wilder and Parma before settling in Notus, where they raised their three children: Gene, Lupita, and Irene.
Lydia knew the meaning of hard work from an early age, working in the fields alongside her family. She later worked at several places in Caldwell. After retiring, she devoted much of her time to caring for her grandchildren. For them, mornings at Grandma’s meant a familiar welcome, a warm bowl of arroz con leche, and time together watching Arthur before school. Those simple mornings became cherished memories.
On April 3, 1997, Lydia became a United States citizen in Boise, Idaho. Receiving her certificate of naturalization was an accomplishment she treasured and a lasting source of pride.
Lydia’s love was evident in the things she did every day. She made homemade tortillas to share with family, friends, and those who helped her. She greeted loved ones affectionately as “mijo” and “mija.” Her familiar landline connected her to children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Many in Notus knew Lydia from her daily walks near the schools. She enjoyed staying active, visiting with neighbors, and gathering for Wednesday morning coffee with friends. Together, Lydia and Eugenio enthusiastically supported Notus sports, attending every game they could—even before their grandchildren were on the teams. Their dedication earned them recognition as fans of the year, and a banner in the Notus High School gymnasium still stands in their honor to this day.
Following Eugenio’s death in 2002, Lydia returned to fellowship with Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2003. Her faith community at the Kingdom Hall in Caldwell held an important place in her life. Her family is grateful to the friends, neighbors, and congregation members who offered companionship, rides, and kindness over the years.
Lydia is survived by her children: Gene (Jackie) Navarro, Lupita (James) Connor, and Irene (Charles) Wilbur; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugenio; her parents; a sister; and three brothers.
Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she maintained, and the many ordinary moments she made meaningful. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd. in Caldwell.
