Patrick Allen Payne

Patrick Allen "Pat" Payne, 85, of Jordan Valley, Oregon, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday evening, July 12, 2026, at Owyhee Rehabilitation Center in Homedale, Idaho. Pat was born on March 23, 1941, in Emmett, Idaho, to Tex and Agnes Payne.

When he was about a year and a half old, the family moved to the Lowry Ranch on Juniper Mountain, where he spent his childhood. Pat attended first through eighth grade at Cliffs School, a one-room schoolhouse with a single teacher serving all eight grades. When he began high school, he moved to Wilder, Idaho, where he lived with George and Teddie Fuller. He later returned to Jordan Valley for his junior and senior years and graduated from Jordan Valley High School in 1960. In December 1961, Pat entered basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Following six months of training, he faithfully served one weekend each month for the next seven years. While in high school, Pat met the love of his life, Danice Brown. They were married on May 29, 1962, and began their life together on the Scott Place, where Pat worked as a ranch hand. They later moved to Grandview, Idaho, where Pat worked for Simplot. In August 1963, they welcomed their daughter, Terry Lynn. On May 5, 1965, Pat and Danice returned to Jordan Valley and purchased the Warm Springs Ranch, which they lovingly called home for the next 60 years. Their son, Gary Allen, was born in April 1966. Together, Pat and Danice worked tirelessly to build their ranch and raise their family. Pat took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren the value of hard work. Whether it was running haying equipment, roping and riding, or simply earning what they had, he led by example. He was known for his strong work ethic, willingness to help anyone in need, and generous spirit. Family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers could always count on Pat. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a kind heart, and a giving nature that touched many lives. Pat and Danice shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in January 2018.

Pat was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Danice; his parents, Tex and Agnes Payne; his brother, Ted Payne; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Payne. He is survived by his daughter, Terry (Jerry) White of Jordan Valley; his son, Gary Payne of Mesa, Idaho; six grandchildren: JT White, Michael (Breeanna) White, Jessie (Monte) Greene, Rory (Angie) Davis, Chelicy (Derek) Wanders, and Shelly (Elias) Cline; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Pat joined the Jordan Valley Rodeo Board in 1968 and later served as its president for approximately 20 years. He was deeply committed to preserving the tradition of the Big Loop Rodeo and enjoyed working alongside fellow board members to ensure its continued success for future generations.

Pat was also a longtime member of the Jordan Valley Lions Club and was instrumental in helping build and support the Lions Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jordan Valley Lions Building Fund. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, Idaho. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jordan Valley Lions Hall. Interment will follow at Jordan Valley Cemetery. Coffee and desserts will be served afterward at the Parish Hall. Friends and family are invited to bring a dessert to share.

Pat's steady hands, generous heart, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
