Steven Dean Munster

Steven Munster, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born in Paducah, Kentucky, in 1953, Steven later moved to Nampa, Idaho, with his parents and siblings, where he began his young life. He lived a life rooted in hard work, loyalty, family, and a quiet but steady willingness to help anyone in need. From an early age, he carried a strong sense of duty and care for others — qualities that would define him throughout his life.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, a chapter of his life that reflected the dedication, discipline, and strength he carried with him long after his service ended.

Following his time in the Navy, Steven built a long and respected career with Amalgamated Sugar, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring. Through every stage of his working life, he remained a dependable and hardworking man, always focused on providing for his family and often placing the needs of others before his own.

Above all else, Steven was a family man.

He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Margaret Munster, and a proud father to his children: Michael Munster, Michelle Smart, Shawna Godfrey, and Stephanie Stevens.

His greatest joy, however, came from being a grandfather. He was deeply proud of Noah, Emily, Ryan, Erik, Kyle, Dylan, McKayla, Kandice, Steven, Sam, McKenna, Pepper, Luke, and Levi. Each of them brought light into his life, and his love for them was constant, steady, and unconditional.

Steven was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. When someone needed help, he didn’t hesitate — he simply showed up. Through life’s unexpected challenges and changes, he remained the person his family could always rely on.

He also found great peace and happiness in the simple things. Steven loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, spending time outside, and caring for animals. Whether he was working with his hands or simply sitting in the quiet of nature, he found joy in life’s everyday moments. His generous heart extended not only to his family and friends, but also to animals and anyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Those who knew Steven will remember his strong work ethic, his loyalty, his humor, and his unwavering willingness to help. They will remember the stories he told, his familiar sayings, and the countless small moments that, in hindsight, became some of the most meaningful memories of all.

And then there were the phrases that were uniquely his — simple reminders of who he was and how he saw the world:

“Oh look, I still have my phone…”

“You don’t feel good? Eat a bologna sandwich and drink some water.”

And Sundays — one of his favorite traditions — were often spent cooking a big breakfast for everyone, bringing the family together around the table to share food, laughter, and time with one another.

These small, familiar pieces of Steven will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Steven is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children: Michael, Michelle, Shawna, and Stephanie, along with their partners and spouses: Chrissy, Steven, Joe, and Justin; his grandchildren: Noah, Emily, Ryan, Erik, Kyle, Dylan, McKayla, Kandice, Steven, Sam, McKenna, Pepper, Luke, and Levi; and his brothers: Phillip, Paul, and David.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Lowanda Munster, and his sister, Vonda Hinckley.

He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will miss him beyond words. His absence will be felt in the quiet moments and the everyday routines — in fishing trips, in the garden, in family gatherings, in Sunday mornings, in phone calls that will never be quite the same, and in every moment someone reaches for the phone, wishing they could call Dad just one more time.

He was a devoted husband, a loving dad, a proud grandpa, our protector, our teacher, our helper, our friend, and our hero.

He was always there when we called.

And now, we carry him forward — in the lessons he taught us, the memories he gave us, and the love he leaves behind.

A viewing will be held for Steven on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5-8:00 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd. in Caldwell. A funeral service will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, with a graveside service with military honors to immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
