Irela Ramona Pupo

Irela Ramona Pupo, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. Irela was born on October 14, 1937, in Santiago, Cuba. She lived much of her life in St Petersburg, Florida after moving from California with her husband and 4 children in 1972. She is preceded in heaven by her beloved husband, Erasmo and precious daughter Lisa. Surviving loved ones include sons Pedro (Jana) and Bill (Carmen) and daughter Vivian (Dewaine), 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Irela, also affectionately known by many as Abuela or Mom, had a magical way of connecting with others. Babies would raise their arms to be held by her, children loved to hear her stories and see what secret treasures (candy) she had in her purse, teens gravitated to her to get advice, good eats and great hugs. And adults loved her for so many wonderful reasons, her joy of sharing time with them, the wisdom and comfort that she easily gave, and her ability to make anyone laugh and smile. Irela made friends everywhere she went: the park, the grocery store, the neighborhood, and she loved sharing stories about her family. Even animals were drawn to her; they sensed they would always receive a pat, a hug, and always love from her! She had a green thumb and plants (especially orchids and African violets) flourished in her care. Irela was artistic and blessed family and friends with her stained-glass creations or crocheted blankets and baby items. Gift giving was her love language, and she delighted in other’s joy when receiving a surprise from her. And of course, everything was always beautifully wrapped and tied up with a perfect bow. Irela was an active member of City on a Hill Church where she shared God's love for people by serving at Carefest and the Christmas parade. Irela is already greatly missed and always will be.

A celebration of her life will be held on July 25th at City on a Hill Church, located at 4265 13th Ave No, St Petersburg, Fl 33713 at 10:30 am. A reception lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice in her honor would be appreciated. Irela loved all living things: humans, animals and even plants!
