Delia Austin
Nov 10, 1934 — Jul 30, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Delia Leticia Moncada Austin, a woman of boundless love, energy, integrity and intelligence. Delia was born in 1934 and transitioned out of this life on July 30, 2026. Through her journey of over 91 years, she touched many lives with her wisdom, humor and an unwavering spirit of perseverance.
Driven by an endless thirst for knowledge, Delia was a lifelong learner, devoted teacher and worked for decades in the health care field with kindness and patience for those she served. She had a passion for reading, literature, languages, travel, discovering new things and the unswerving pursuit of truth and justice. Her work ethic and dedication to her family were incomparable. This spirit which characterized her life translated into lessons she earnestly imparted onto those around her.
Born in Honduras, Central America, Delia read voraciously as a young lady, became a teacher, eventually travelling to the United States on a scholarship to learn English and return home. However, as plans change, she met her future husband, Loren Austin, in Georgia, ultimately making their home together in Tempe, AZ and lastly, Washington state. Delia became a proud naturalized citizen of the United States, a feat that underscored her determination and tenacity.
Delia’s legacy of generosity, perseverance, and learning will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity and resilience.
Delia was truly an exceptional woman, mother, abuelita, sister, aunt, friend, mother-in-law and ally. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Delia is survived by her loving children, Lucia Silvernale (Patrick) and Mauricio Austin, along with cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Michael and Jason, who were the lights of her life.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Delia’s legacy of learning and teaching by seeking out new knowledge, pushing beyond the boundaries of the known, and sharing these insights with others. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
