Eugenia “Jean” Aloyce Allen-Vrablik, 78, of Dupont, WA, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on September 5, 2026.
Jean was born on April 20, 1948, in Bremerton, WA, to Joyce Young and Leroy Godfrey. She was the eldest of three sisters and five brothers: Charles Young, Charlene Cox, Eddie Aaron, Raymond Singleton, Vincent McLin, Venus McLin, Samuel Keith McLin, and Sarah Holden. Throughout her life, she relished her role as their sister, friend, and champion.
Jean devoted her life to becoming her full self. She navigated a childhood that did not prepare her for success. Rather, she planted seeds of hope that she would cultivate and develop over the next seven decades. She began forging her resilience at age eight, when she would lie in the tall green grass, gaze at the sky, and imagine herself capable of creating a safe and prosperous life for herself and loved ones.
Jean realized her big dreams over the next several decades as she built a family and raised five daughters. She shared her daughters with Curtis Kelly (Ann), Charlie Benford (Naomi), and Julius Allen. Lisa Canady, daughter of Jean and Curtis; Angela DeVault, daughter of Jean and Charlie; and Tamara Jean Hobbs, Chanda Allen Paster, and Tiana Allen Pressoir, daughters of Jean and Julius. Her “Ladies,” as she lovingly called them, filled her life with joy, laughter, and pride.
Jean found the love of her life in her husband, David Lee Vrablik, who survives her. Their 32-year marriage was an adventure of road trips to find the best hamburger in Washington, celebrating the family they so loved, and being the very best of friends whose hearts will be forever entwined. Their love endures.
Her daughters brought her the sons she’d always hoped for: Matthew Canady, Jr., Michael Pressoir, Xavier Hobbs, and William Paster. Her children blessed her with twelve grandchildren, including Ashley Brunson, Brian Harrell, Symphony Canady, Erik McBride, Angelo Howard, Naidrece Hunter, Nathaniel Hobbs, Kealan Allen, Jordan Paster, Langston Paster, Ellie Paster, and Klean Jackson. Her “Sweethearts,” as she called them, were the echo of her heartbeat. Jean was also blessed with a third generation, her beloved “GG’s Kids”: Ace Jackson, Beaux Kelly, Phoenix Kelly, Jade Harrell, Joanna Harrell, and Aleiya Jean Harrell. Our family will soon welcome another GG’s Kid with the arrival of Baby Paster.
Throughout her journey, Jean met many people who became family. She leaves behind hundreds of nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, dear friends, mentees, brothers and sisters in Christ, and former colleagues.
Jean held a special place in her heart for the families and children she served for more than 20 years as the proprietor of Allen’s Daycare. A successful entrepreneur, she empowered young women through her work to advocate for themselves and their children. Throughout her career, she served her community in the city, state and federal governments. She retired from the City of Seattle food and nutrition program, training home daycare providers. Jean flourished in helping others to become better versions of themselves.
Jean loved the Lord. She often told her daughters how they kept her on her knees, praying over their endeavors. She lovingly extended this care to her church communities, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Group Leader at Madison Park Church of Christ and later Bellevue Church of Christ. In church, Jean found her public speaking voice as a guest speaker for ladies' day programs, bringing messages of hope, resilience, and belief that God would provide as you show up for yourself. In this space, she found that she could be and do more than she’d ever imagined.
Her long belief in education as a tool for freedom led her to a love affair with words, politics, and history. She broadened her world through the newspapers and books she devoured. Later, she would use her writing to advocate for men in prison and to call on the world to protect its children through editorials in her local newspaper.
Jean’s powerful legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and hearts that beat differently in her absence. We will love her forever. May she rest in peace in the comfort of the Lord, surrounded by the abundance of love she gave, nurtured, and received throughout her life.
Our family thanks you for your condolences. The outpouring of calls, gifts, and kind words has been a great comfort during this sad time.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a public viewing honoring Jean's life and memory. Following the viewing, the family will continue the homegoing celebration with a private memorial service for Jean.
