John Lindsey Beal

Sep 15, 1942 — May 30, 2026

Surrounded by his loving family, John passed away peacefully at home in Lacey, WA on May 30th.

The son of John and Josephine Beal, John was born and raised in Newport and graduated from Newport High School in 1960. John graduated in microbiology from Oregon State University in 1965. After college John enlisted in the army and spent his military service with the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) under President Johnson. John served his duty at the White House and Site R, which is the underground, top secret communications facility located in Blue Ridge Summit, PA, 50 miles north of Washington DC.

In 1969, John went home to Newport, OR and married Carolyn Fenander (NHS 1962). John and Carolyn lived in Woodinville, WA for close to 40 years where they raised their two sons, Jeffrey John and Brian Joseph, their daughter, Lindsey Lee and their niece, Theresa Lynn, who John considered like a second daughter. John spent his career years primarily in the food and drug industry in the Seattle area where he enjoyed the positions of forecasting and scheduling for light manufacturing.

John’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was happiest when he was sitting around the dinner table with his family and friends: good food (especially the crab cracks), good wine and good conversation. John and Carolyn were part of a dinner group of eight, which started in Woodinville 44 years ago and still continues today. After many wonderful, family years in Woodinville, John and Carolyn spent the last ten years of their retirement in their new home in the Olympia, WA area.

Kind and compassionate, John was our rock. He was quiet, introspective and a voracious reader and a life-long learner. John was a gentle, old soul, always present with a ready smile. He believed it was his purpose on this earth to be of service to others, opening his heart to assist anyone in need. John did not judge others. As he often said, “it’s not my job to judge anyone else, my job is to take care of myself and live my best life.”

John was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey, and his sister, Julie Rich. John is survived by Carolyn, his wife of almost 57 years, his two sons Jeffrey and Brian (Tiffany) and his niece, Theresa Kash (Tigran). He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Campbell.

He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
