Nancy Sumrall

Jan 23, 1937 — Oct 21, 2026

Nancy Sumrall passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, in Gig Harbor, Washington after a longtime residence in Lacey, Washington. Born Nancy Cook on January 23rd,1937 in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, her maiden name inspired the affectionate nickname Cookie, which stayed with her throughout her childhood and high school years. As the last born of six children, she was a resilient soul from the start, surviving scarlet fever as a child and eventually surviving all of her siblings.

After graduating from Sharpsburg Highschool in 1954, she moved from her family home on the East Coast to California at the young age of nineteen, showing her strong independent character. She attended community college and worked her way to becoming an executive secretary in the Prudential Insurance company. In 1968 she married her spouse, David Sumrall, and together seeking new job opportunities they moved from California to Western Washington in 1972, where they lived together for 54 years, lastly residing for 17 years in Lacey.

Nancy was a woman of sharp intellect and quiet dedication. Later in life she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Washington University, and went on to a distinguished career, ultimately serving as the Lead Accountant for Boeing's Retirement Account. Outside of her professional achievements, Nancy was known for her very East Coast, dry sense of humor, and being able to do the New York Times crosswords in pen. She also was generous and kind to family and friends. In retirement she had more time to enjoy family and friends, volunteering, playing piano, and traveling.

Nancy is survived by her beloved spouse of 58 years, David; her devoted daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Gil; and her two cherished grandchildren, Sarah and Alex.  In accordance with Nancy’s explicit wishes, she will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. For those who wish to honor her memory, the family suggests making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association
