Robert Bruce McBride
Jul 9, 1957 — Oct 16, 2026
Robert Bruce McBride, 69, passed away at home on Friday, October 16, 2026, from complications of ALS and Myasthenia Gravis.
Rob was born on July 9, 1957, in Olympia, Washington, to Malcolm A. and Patricia J. (Rambo) McBride. He was a member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe through his father's McAllister, Mounts, and McCloud ancestral lines and had lived on Johnson Point for his entire life.
Rob attended South Bay Elementary, Chinook Middle School, and North Thurston High School, graduating in 1975. After high school, he ventured north and did surveying on the Alaska Pipeline project and by early 1980’s opened his business, McBride Construction, and began general contracting. Returning to Johnson Point, he put his equipment to work in the Olympia area and continued to operate his business until his passing. He earned the loyalty and friendship of many customers along the way. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed rearranging dirt for the people who trusted him with their projects.
Resourceful and skilled, Rob could repair almost any car, truck, or piece of machinery. When necessary, he could combine two vehicles to make one that ran. He was the go-to guy for many, the person people called when something broke, a project needed doing, or they simply needed a helping hand. Hardworking and generous with his time and knowledge, Rob was always willing to help others. His kindness left a lasting mark on the many people who counted on him.
Rob loved his vintage car collection, especially his "Green Frog," the 1969 Nova he had driven in high school.
Above all, his grandchildren brought him tremendous joy.
Rob will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his hardworking spirit, generous heart, and the countless ways he showed up for others.
Rob is survived by his wife, Cindy Thurston McBride, his three sons, Brent L. (Ashley), Patrick L. (Emily), and Paul A.; his grandchildren, his extended family, many close friends, and his canine companion Lucy. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mark Alan McBride.
A private graveside service will be held at Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater. A time to gather and remember Rob is being planned for the Annual Thurston Farm Party in August, continuing a tradition he and Cindy shared with family and friends for nearly 20 years.
