Steven Michael Cox
Jul 12, 1961 — Jul 9, 2026
Steven “Steve” Michael Cox, 64, passed away on July 9, 2026, in Olympia, Washington, surrounded by the love of his children. He was born on July 12, 1961, in Centralia, Washington, to Derald L. Cox and Elizabeth (Date) Fenske.
Steve grew up in Rochester, Washington, where he attended school, developed lifelong friendships, and distinguished himself both academically and athletically.
He devoted his career to the profession of golf course management, serving as superintendent at several golf courses throughout Washington. His greatest impact extended beyond the fairways, as he built lasting relationships and strong communities, particularly at Newaukum Valley Golf Club and Capitol City Golf Club.
Sports were woven into every chapter of Steve’s life. He looked forward to weekly rounds of golf, spent countless hours officiating high school football and basketball, coached his children with patience and pride, and rarely passed up an opportunity to watch the Mariners play. He also treasured traveling and making memories at concerts with family and friends.
Steve is survived by his sister, Susan (Cox) Waltrip; his brother, John Cox; his daughters, Cortnei (Cox) Boyd and Matticen Cox; his son, Bradyn Cox; and his grandsons, Truman Boyd and Shia Boyd.
More than any accomplishment, Steve’s greatest pride was his family. He will be remembered as a devoted father, caring grandfather, loyal friend, mentor, and someone who made others feel welcome wherever he went.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on August 15, 2026, at Capitol City Golf Club.
