Betty Moore
Nov 24, 1937 — Aug 13, 2026
Betty Moore passed away August 13, 2026, surrounded by family at her home in Rainier WA. She was 88 years old.
Betty was born November 24, 1937 in Long Beach CA, the first of four daughters to John and Doris Holliday. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, both her parents, and younger sister Ethel Olson of MN.
Betty is survived by her son Eric (Kathi Jo) Moore of Rainier WA, her daughter Lynn (Kirk) Gietz of Olympia WA, and granddaughters AnnaLisa and LauraLee Moore of Rainier WA, as well as two sisters Barbara Denton and Donna Holliday, both of Kamilche WA.
Betty married Raymond Moore on July 27, 1962 in Dunn NC. She later gave birth to Eric in 1965 and Lynn in 1966. The family moved five times before arriving in Kamilche WA, their favorite home! Betty hosted a 4th of July potluck every year for family and friends. There was always more food than you could eat and fun was had by all who attended. Together, Betty and Raymond enjoyed their beautiful waterfront home for 33 years before making their final move March 2018 to their "little log home" in Rainier WA. Next door to their son, allowing daily visits from their granddaughters, and much closer to their daughter. Betty's favorite things about the new home, was watching the calves run and play in the surrounding pasture.
After Raymond's passing in September 2018, Betty became well known in the cattle barns at fair for her sugar cookies. She loved spending time with her granddaughters by showing up for every fair to proudly watch them show, even when she had to use a walker to get around.
Throughout her life, Betty was a collector of "old stuff". Her car stopped at most yard sales and auctions as they were her favorite recreational pastime. She was well known for her cooking and over the years many dinners included more people than just immediate family. There was always room at her table. Betty also instilled her love of cooking in her grandchildren.
Known as the family caregiver, Betty took in and cared for several young people as if they were her own. Any time she knew someone was in need, Betty was there for them, including numerous relatives. Betty was compassionate and giving until the end.
For the past year, Betty was cared for full time by her daughter in law Kathi Jo, her daughter Lynn and granddaughter AnnaLisa.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff from Hospice. If you'd like to honor Betty, please give a donation to your local animal rescue or shelter.
