**Obituary for Charles Calvin King**

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Calvin King, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who departed this life on September 9, 2025, in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 93. Born on August 5, 1932, in Higginsville, Missouri, Charles exemplified the spirit of dedication and service throughout his remarkable life.

Charles was the proud son of Louis Robert King and Florence Hazel Cowan (deceased). He was a cherished husband to his wife, Jane King, and a devoted father to his sons: Andrew King of Missouri, Anthony King of Virginia, and Michael King of Florida, as well as to his daughter, Julie Fernandez of South Carolina. His legacy also includes many loving relatives: Louis Robert King Jr., Martha Mondul, Evelyn Sheets, Susan Richards, and Jean Parrish, who will have all preceded him in death.

A distinguished veteran, Charles dedicated 35 years of service to the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Captain. He was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medals, reflective of his outstanding commitment to his country. Beyond his military legacy, he gathered a distinguished education with degrees in Political Science and earned his Master Gardener Certification, embodying a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.

Charles had a bold and charismatic personality that drew people to him. He was known for his gentle sarcasm, humor, and his unforgettable smile. It was often said that he believed, "A Day on the golf course is better than a day in the office; it never rains on the golf course." His passions included golf, gardening, and bird watching, pursuits that reflected his appreciation for the outdoors and life's simple pleasures.

A memorial service honoring Charles was held on September 13, 2025, at Hope Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hope Community Church, 2425 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Olympia, WA 98512, or to American Brittany Rescue (www.americanbrittanyrescue.org), causes that were close to Charles's heart.

Charles Calvin King will be deeply missed, not only by his family but by all whose lives he touched with his warmth and humor. His legacy of service and love will forever remain in our hearts.
