Coleen Robin Lowary
d. Sep 30, 2026
Coleen Robin Lowary: Beloved niece, sister, cousin, mom, aunt, and friend, passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 66. She grew up in Kent, WA, where her love of cats, crafts, cooking, camping, and cards (pinocle) developed. She earned an AA degree from Bellevue Community College and attended classes at UW. For most of adulthood, she lived in Redmond, Bellevue, and Kirkland, working as a waitress and bartender at upscale restaurants.
She enjoyed playing the piano, working with stained glass, container gardening, reading, and traveling. In her mid-20s, she parachuted from an airplane. Slow to let go from the strut (until the plane sped up), and then too excited to remember to check her guidance arrow on the ground, she nearly landed on the freeway. She created many good memories with others, attending plays and concerts, watching the Blue Angels at Seafair, trying new (or revisiting favorite) recipes and hiking trails, multiple Mt. St. Helens climbs, and completing two-thirds of the Wonderland Trail.
Coleen presented an independent, strong-willed, carefree spirit. She was genuinely thoughtful, generous and well-liked. Self-care was not her forte, and unchecked glaucoma severely impacted her vision in 2013. With support from family, friends, and neighbors, she eventually rallied and went to work at The Lighthouse for the Blind. There, she spent a few productive years with other amazing people who were navigating even greater challenges and proudly won their annual salmon derby on her first entry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests adopting a cat, planting a shrub/tree, or donating to a charity of your choice in her memory.
