Edward B. Hibbert

Feb 10, 1947 — Sep 26, 2026

Edward B. Hibbert left this world on September 26, 2026, passing away peacefully in Olympia, Washington. In a beautiful reflection of a lifetime of devotion, he departed on the exact day of his and his beloved wife Susan’s wedding anniversary—a final, poetic testament to a love that will endure forever.

Born on February 10, 1947, in Seattle, Washington, Edward grew up with a heart built for service, a gentle spirit, and a trademark sense of humor. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1966 at Centennial High School in Portland, Oregon. That very same year, Edward began a remarkable 41-year career with the Simpson Lumber Company, where he worked with unwavering dedication until his retirement in 2007. He wasn't just a loyal employee; he was the foundational bedrock of everything he touched.

To know Edward was to love his wonderful quirks and his boundless capacity to give. He found immense joy in the simplest parts of life. He was a master grocery shopper, turning every trip into a treasure hunt as he proudly hunted down the best discounts and bargains. His deep faith and love for community led him to active fellowship at Westwood Baptist Church and on the open road with the Christian Motorcyclist Association.

Retirement didn't slow Edward's desire to serve; it only gave him more room to love others. He poured his time into the Olympia Senior Center and spent 10 beautiful years tutoring math and reading at the Boys and Girls Club. With endless patience, a warm smile, and a gentle guiding hand, he transformed the lives of countless young people, leaving an indelible mark on the next generation.

Edwards’s greatest pride and joy was the beautiful family he built. He is survived by the love of his life, Susan Brehmeyer Hibbert, who held his heart for so many years. His legacy lives on through his son, Brian Hibbert, and his daughters, Christina Bond, Lacie Chavez, and Karen Van Scoyoc. He also leaves behind a rich lineage of six grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of his kindness. Edward has now been joyfully reunited with those who went before him: his father, Arthur Evevett; his mother, Erroldine Snyder; and his infant daughter, Michelle, who has waited to hold her father's hand since 1970.

Edward lived a life defined not by grand, loud gestures, but by steady, quiet faithfulness. He touched his family, his church, and his community in deeply lasting ways, teaching us all that a life well-lived is one spent in service to the people you love.
