James Edward Beckford

Oct 14, 1945 — Feb 27, 2026

James (Jim) Beckford, 80, passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by family, laughter, and a life spent working with his hands and caring deeply for those he loved.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Jim built a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and quiet generosity. He spent the majority of his career as a mechanic, specializing in German engines, particularly Volkswagens and Audi’s. For many years he owned and operated Country Car Care in Tenino, Washington, where he became known for his skill, patience, and the ability to fix just about anything that came through the shop. Those who knew him respected not only his craftsmanship, but the pride he took in doing honest work.

Jim was just as well known for his incredible sense of humor. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and brought warmth and joy to every room he entered. He also had a deep appreciation for classic cars, a passion that reflected both his career and his admiration for timeless craftsmanship.

Family was always the center of Jim's life. When he met and married Eve Beckford, he embraced the role of father wholeheartedly, adopting all seven of Eva's children and adding 3 more children together, building a large and loving family together. In the later years of his life, he continued that devotion by raising his two grandsons, giving them the same guidance, care, and steady presence he had given so many others.

He was the proud father of 11 children, whose families grew to include 30 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. One of the many simple traditions his family will always remember is the cookie jar he kept in his home, which was always full and ready for anyone who stopped by.

Jim leaves behind a legacy that spans five generations, something few people are fortunate enough to witness in their lifetime. The family he built stands as a testament to a life well lived.

His laughter, generosity, and the love he gave so freely will live on through the generations he helped raise.
