Trust in the Lord with all your heart     and lean not on your own understanding; ~Proverb 3:5

Monica Pichler, a woman whose journey was marked by courage, devotion, creativity, and love.

Monica was born in Argentina on April 12, 1941. At just 18 years old, she married Karl Pichler in 1959, beginning a partnership that would shape the rest of her life. Together they welcomed their first son, Daniel, in 1960. In 1962, with little more than the clothes in their suitcases, Monica and Karl made the bold decision to move to Seattle, chasing opportunity and a better life. Their courage and faith carried them through those early years of uncertainty.

The family grew quickly—Ed was born in 1964, John in 1969, and in 1971 Monica and Karl adopted Michael, completing their circle of four boys. Monica devoted herself to raising her children, creating a home filled with warmth and faith, while Karl worked as a mechanic to provide for them. In 1979, Karl fulfilled his dream of owning land with trees, purchasing 160 acres in Rochester. The family moved there, beginning a new chapter surrounded by nature.

Monica’s life was not only about sacrifice but also about pursuing her passions. In 1982, she began working nights at Briarwood Farms, cleaning egg candling machines. Two years later, she fulfilled a lifelong dream when she joined Artistry in Flowers, where her love for gardening blossomed into a career. Monica’s gardens of dahlias and roses were legendary—vibrant, abundant, and tended with care. She was also a gifted, self-taught oil painter, creating countless works of art that she gave as gifts to family and friends. Her creativity was an extension of her love, a way of leaving pieces of herself with those she cherished.

Faith was the cornerstone of Monica and Karl’s life. Together, they were deeply involved in their church, living out their belief in God with sincerity and devotion. When Karl passed away in 1998, Monica’s heart ached with his absence, yet she carried on with strength, holding tightly to her faith and the memories of their life together.

Monica’s legacy extended through her family. She was blessed with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her joy and pride. She also had a tender love for animals, especially her dogs. In her final months, she found comfort in reading her Bible with her loyal Chihuahua, Scrappy, by her side.

Monica’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and faith. She built a home from nothing, nurtured her children with devotion, pursued her passions with determination, and lived every day guided by her belief in God. She leaves behind not only her family but also a legacy of beauty—in her gardens, her paintings, and the love she poured into everyone she touched.

As we remember Monica, let us carry forward her example: to love deeply, to create freely, to walk in faith, and to cherish the simple joys of life. Though she has gone to be reunited with Karl, her spirit remains with us—in every rose that blooms, every painting that hangs, and every memory we hold close.

Rest peacefully, Monica. Your life was a gift, and your love will never be forgotten.
