Nancy Kay Orbeck,  wife, mother, and beloved Grammie, passed away on April 25, 2026, in Olympia, Washington. Born on March 8, 1942, in Bloomington, Illinois, Nancy’s life was a tapestry woven with faith, love, friendship, and a steadfast commitment to family.

A graduate of Heyworth High School, class of 1960, Nancy left Heyworth and moved out west when she married Edward Orbeck on December 21, 1963, in Olympia, Washington. Together, they built a life, nurturing their children and grandchildren with unwavering love.

Nancy’s days were spent caring for home and family. Once her granddaughters started kindergarten, she found joy in collecting and selling Longaberger baskets, She enjoyed her basket related friendships, both in person and online. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, spending time with friends.  Her faith in Jesus was evident in her dedicated study of the Bible, a pursuit that brought her solace and strength throughout her life. Above all, Nancy treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren, finding in them the deepest source of happiness and fulfillment.

Her natural warmth and outgoing nature made her a beloved figure in her community. She loved engaging in heartfelt conversations, cherishing the bonds of friendship that enriched her world. Nancy’s genuine interest in others and her open heart created connections that endured, leaving a legacy of kindness and compassion.

Nancy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Edward Orbeck; her sons, Mat (Becca) Orbeck and Mark Orbeck; and her daughter, Tina (Tom) Thunell. Her love continues to resonate in the lives of her grandchildren: Ashley (Collin) Shadle, Terra Tinsley, and Nick Dennis, and great grandchildren: Scarlett and Emilia Tinsley and Carson and Avery Shadle. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Margie Mathews, and her sisters, Carol and Joann Mathews. 

Nancy’s life was a testament to the beauty of connection, the strength of faith, and the profound impact of a loving soul. Her memory will be cherished forever by all who were touched by her presence.
