Obituary Scott Lantz

Scott Lantz, artist, brother and friend passed away August 12, 2025. He was born in Olympia in November 23, 1957 to LeRoy and Lois (Cammack) Lantz. Scott attended Olympia schools graduating from Olympia High School in 1976.

Scott lived in Seattle nearly all his adult life. He graduated from the University of Washington with dual degrees in Microbiology and Biology. Scott was highly gifted and could have done anything where his heart led him. And what gave Scott most joy was working as an artist.

Scott was largely a self-taught artist, inspired by his mother, Lois and drawing from greats such as Vermeer, Degas and Hopper. He was a long-time vendor at the Pike Place Market initially making jewelry, selling whimsical earrings and pins that were a delight to clients, friends and family alike. In 2003, Scott transformed his vendor stall to display and market original paintings. His original artwork later became a presence at the Fountainhead Gallery in Queen Anne.

In 2020, Scott was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. He stopped working leaving the Pike Place Market (the longest serving vendor at the time) and moved in with family in Olympia. He began receiving treatment and feeling better moved into a small condominium a year later where he began painting and showing his art again. His last art show was several months before his death.

Scott is survived by brothers: Brian (Evelyn), Eric (Laura) and Leif (Barbara); two nieces, Jessica Griffith and Sarah Lantz and nephew, Michael Lantz. A memorial gathering of friends and family will take place at the Fountainhead Gallery on Sunday, March 29 from 1:00-3:30 pm. Scott’s art remains available for purchase at Fountainhead.

The family (and Scott) request you enjoy the beauty of art by supporting a local artist. Donations in Scott’s name may be made to the Benaroya Research Institute.
