Thomas "Tom" Paul Bergman
December 8, 1948 — April 1, 2026
Thomas “Tom” Paul Bergman passed away on April 1, 2026, in Lacey, Washington. He was born on December 8, 1948, in Washburn, Wisconsin, to Ernest and Veronica Bergman.
Tom graduated from Washburn High School in Wisconsin and married Rita Stuart on July 21, 1973, in Ashland, WI. In 1978, he moved his family west to pursue a construction career in the Seattle area with Andy Johnson Construction and Kiewit Construction. Tom and Rita purchased a home in Olympia, which became the cherished family residence for over 45 years, where they raised their two daughters.
Tom was a proud union member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 59 years. He helped build and support major infrastructure projects across Western Washington, including Seattle’s SR 99 Tunnel, the Pacific Science Center, the Seattle Westin Hotel, and Hood Canal Bridge. Throughout his life, Tom was quick to help family and friends with home improvement projects big and small.
He loved his family deeply and held a strong faith as a devoted member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Olympia. Tom found joy in building, fishing, gardening, raising mason bees, bargain shopping, spending time with his grandchildren and cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. He was a Green Bay Packer Shareholder and visited Lambeau Field with his family in 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Bergman; daughters Julie Bergman-Platner and Sara Wasser (Aaron); grandchildren Makenzie Noel (Ryan), Jackson Platner, Madelynn Wasser, and Hannah Wasser; sisters Joyce Paulson, Susan Kundinger (Gary), Janet Palm (James), and Sharon Johnson (John); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Bergman; his sister, Helen Korpela (Otto), and four nephews.
