Obituary for Tyler John Gates

May 19, 1993 - September 15, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tyler John Gates, who left this world on September 15, 2025. Born on May 19, 1993, Tyler was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, who dedicated his life to those around him with kindness, loyalty, and generosity.

Tyler is survived by his cherished son, Sky James Council Gates, his parents, Marty and Lisa Gates, his siblings, Christian Gates and Tayllor Yochum, and brother-in-laws Damien Tillmon and Kyle Yochum. He was a treasured uncle to nieces Bonnie, Miley, Maddie, and nephews Grayson and Weston. Tyler also leaves behind his uncle Terry Clifton, great aunt Fran Clifton, aunts Julie Blackson and Rene Hoopes, and many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. His grandmothers, Ann Clifton and Hope Cadwell, also mourn his absence profoundly.

A graduate of Tumwater High School in 2011, Tyler had a remarkable career as a foreman on a fishing vessel called the F/T Constellation for O'Hara Corporation in Alaska for over a decade, where he developed a deep love for the sea. At the time of his passing, he was employed at Costco. His dedication to his work was matched only by his passion for nature and spending time with his son, Sky. He had an adventurous spirit, having spent several years in Oregon, where he worked as a FedEx delivery driver,  with his former partner Mars creating lasting friendships along the way.

Tyler relished the simple joys of life, whether it was being surrounded by the great outdoors, camping, or sharing precious moments playing guitar, building Lego creations, and gaming with Sky. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends, often doing so with a smile that warmed the hearts of everyone around him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and warmth will remain in the hearts of those he touched.

A celebration of Tyler's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at a location to be announced in the future. Family and friends are encouraged to come together to honor his memory as we reflect on the joy and love he brought into our lives. In this time of sorrow, we encourage all who knew Tyler to cherish the moments shared and the memories created, as he would have wanted us to embrace the beauty of life, even in the face of loss.
