Zella Jeanette Honeyford
Jul 7, 1941 — Mar 9, 2026
Zella Jeanette Honeyford, 84, of Olympia, Washington, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, after a long goodbye of Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Seattle, Washington, on July 7, 1941, Zella moved to Littell with her family at the age of three, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Adna High School in 1959 (Go Pirates!), where she enthusiastically participated in school activities, served as a cheerleader, and formed lifelong friendships, including with her beloved "Mau Mau's and Maw Maw's" group.
Following high school, Zella attended Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon, graduating in 1962. She dedicated her career to caring for children as a pediatric nurse, working primarily in clinic settings, including Western Clinic in Tacoma and Dr. Lester's office in Olympia.
Known to nearly everyone as "Chatty Z," Zella had a gift for conversation and an infectious sense of humor. She made friends wherever she went, and people were naturally drawn to her warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others.
Many also knew Zella as the beloved "Demo Lady" at West Olympia Top Foods, where she greeted shoppers with a warm smile, fresh bakery samples, and plenty of conversation. For many customers, a trip to the store wasn't complete without stopping to chat with Chatty Z while enjoying a famous croissant sample.
Zella was an active member of the Episcopal Church and devoted countless hours to serving others. She volunteered through the Daughters of the King, charitable hospital organizations, and the American Legion. Whether caring for patients, volunteering in her community, or simply sharing stories over coffee, Zella found joy in connecting with people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Honeyford; her mother, Rosabelle Pettit-Orr; her father, Harry Orr; and her brother, Bing Orr.
Zella is survived by her sister, Sylvia Rivera; her children, Sunny and Paul; her three grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as "GramZ"; and many extended family members and dear friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Zella's laughter, caring heart, and joyful spirit will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Adna Grange Hall, 123 Dieckman Road, Chehalis, Washington.
