Lauryn Marie Akey

Oct 21, 2004 — May 17, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lauryn Akey, who left this world far too soon at the age of 21.

Lauryn graduated from Rochelle Township High School in Rochelle, Illinois, in 2023 before moving to Florida with her family to begin an exciting new chapter in life. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and loved being part of her school community. She was about to begin her senior year at University of South Florida in Tampa, where she was a 4.0 student majoring in Exercise Science. After earning her degree, Lauryn planned to pursue a career in nursing while building a beautiful future with her boyfriend and the love of her life, Garrett Day.

Lauryn was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. Known for her kind heart, warm spirit, and beautiful smile, she had a way of bringing joy wherever she went. One of Lauryn’s greatest joys was spending time with her friends on the water, fishing and chasing sunsets. She adored her Golden Retriever, Sanibel, Australian Shepherd, Zues, and Havanese, Miley. She was known as “Sissy” by her little brothers. She was also a proud Swiftie who found so much happiness in the music, memories, and experiences shared through every Era.

Though Lauryn’s time here was far too brief, she made a lasting impact on everyone blessed enough to know and love her. She will be remembered for her bright personality, loving heart, contagious laughter, and the countless beautiful memories she created with family and friends.

“Long live all the magic we made.”

Lauryn is survived by her mother, Melinda Mucho; father, Jason Akey; stepmother, Amy Akey; stepfather, Robert Mucho; brothers, Zachary Akey, Maddox Akey, Jaxon Akey, and Avery Akey; grandparents, Julie Torgersen (Bob Edler), Steven Peavy (Julie), and Jim Akey (Luidamilla); along with many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed every day.

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Lauryn will be held on May 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Community Church, located at 4080 Lakewood Ranch Blvd N, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34240.

To honor Lauryn and her bright personality, we ask everyone, if possible, to wear bright and cheerful colors instead of black.
