David Bertram Cutler
Mar 16, 1951 — Jul 2, 2026
David Bertram Cutler died peacefully on July 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.
David was born on March 16, 1951 in Norfolk, VA, son of Mary Falzon Wesson of High Point, NC and the late Elbert Bertram Cutler of Clearwater, FL. The family moved to Charlotte, and he attended Charlotte city schools and graduated from Carlisle Military Academy in Bamberg, SC. He attended both Central Piedmont Community College and Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. After brief service in the United States Navy, he returned to the Carolinas and worked in sales. David was blessed to meet the love of his life, Louise Lindsay Larkin, and after a short courtship they were married and made their home in Camden, SC.
Humble, loving, and dedicated to his wife Louise of 34 years, David was attentive to his family, to his friends, to his in-laws, and to his many adoring nieces and nephews. He rarely missed celebrating a birthday, wedding, debut or other milestones with enthusiasm. David especially enjoyed the comradery of friends on the golf course, his many travel adventures with Louise, spending time at the beach, and a good laugh with anyone he might engage in conversation with. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church Camden; Linville Golf Club; DeBordieu Club; Springdale Hall, Camden; Camden Country Club; and Woodcreek Country Club, Columbia, SC
Ever generous to all those around him, his philanthropic support included Food for the Soul; Kershaw County Health & MUSC; Kershaw County Fine Arts Center; National Steeplechase Association; Carolina Cup; Oliver Gospel Mission; Linville Foundation; Crossnore Communities; Charlotte Country Day School; Charlotte Ballet and One Library at a Time. He never missed buying Girl Scout cookies, giving to Salvation Army volunteers and other local fundraising projects wherever he happened to be. And he always shared his smile for kind encouragement.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Lindsay Larkin Cutler; his mother, Mary Falzon Wesson and his stepmother, Mary Lou Cutler; his half siblings Danie Lee Cutler McKee (Dean) and Bertram Cash Cutler (Shana); his step siblings Sonja Wesson and Lynn Wesson; his in-laws, John Adrian Larkin III (Annie), Peter Alexander Larkin, junior (Ashley), and Jean Morehead Larkin Dobson (John); and his many nieces and nephews: Danie Rayne Cutler, Foster Cash Cutler, Rayne Hope Cutler, River Dakota Cutler, Jasmine Brook Cutler, Turiya Spring Cutler; Angi Wesson Cranford (Daniel ) and David Sipes; and Robert Armstrong Dobson, John Lindsay Dobson, Larkin McNab Dobson, Sophie Hilliard Larkin, Mary Hilliard Larkin, John Adrian Larkin IV, Lindsay Morehead Larkin and Mia Kleberg Larkin. He is preceded in death by his father Bert, stepfather Ray Brevard Wesson, and step siblings Scott Wesson and David Wesson.
The family would like to thank all those who supported his cancer battle this past year: the outstanding care team at Levine Cancer Center led by Kathryn Mileham, MD; the team with Kaitlyn Dill, MD of Novant Hallmark Care; Don Gibbons of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston; Dana M. Harris, MD and the team with Shenduo Li, MD both of Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville and the incredible healthcare teams at Carolinas Medical Center Atrium Health Hospital.
