Heidi Jo Maroun
August 27, 1964 — May 16, 2026
Heidi Jo (Campbell, Sutter) Maroun, 61, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026 in Charlotte, NC after a courageous five-year battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) cancer. Throughout every stage of her illness, Heidi faced unimaginable challenges with extraordinary strength, grace, and determination that inspired everyone around her. Even in the hardest moments, Heidi remained focused not on herself, but on the people she loved most.
Heidi grew up in many cities across the midwestern U.S., graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in Ohio and from the University of Georgia in 1986 with a degree in Journalism where she was a Tri Delt sorority member. She had a lengthy career in the fields of television journalism, advertising, retail buying, and project management.
Above all else, Heidi was devoted to her family. She was a loving and proud mother to her two sons, Logan and Tanner, and her bonus daughter, Jillian. Her love for her three children was unwavering and unconditional, and as much as she adored them in childhood, she also found immense joy in watching them grow into the individuals they are, and continue in becoming, today. Family was the center of Heidi’s world, and the bond she shared with them was deep and enduring.
Heidi shared a beautiful life and marriage (2008) with her loving husband, Kyle, whose steadfast love and support was evident as he remained by her side through every chapter of her journey. After a joyful life together enjoying family, travel, and quiet times watching movies with Cooper in between them, hand-in hand they persevered through years of treatments, uncertainty, hope, and heartbreak with courage and devotion.
Heidi was the beloved daughter of Donald Campbell and the late Sandy Campbell (sadly lost in 2021). Heidi held a special place in her heart for her father, Don, and his wife Linda Winters. She cherished having them nearby in Charlotte and treasured the time they spent together as a family and the support they provided over the years.
One of the closest relationships in Heidi’s life was with her sister and best friend, Jennifer Fahey. Their bond was unbreakable — filled with love, laughter, loyalty, shared memories, and constant support. Heidi also adored her nieces and nephew: Cameron Mees (Zach) and their children Nora and Declan; Kelsey Salvatoriello (Donato Salvatoriello); and Jackson Fahey. She loved watching her family grow and took pride in every milestone and memory they shared together.
Heidi was also blessed with lifelong friendships that carried her through both joyful and difficult times. Her childhood friends in Worthington, Ohio: Dawn Doty, Mark Susi, Bob Murch, and Heather Haxton; her treasured besties in Charlotte; Julie Hooks, Tracy Edwards, Renia Chase, and Mary Neal Harris, among so many others, brought her laughter, comfort, strength and companionship throughout her life, and especially during her battle with cancer. Their friendship meant the world to her.
Heidi also found great comfort in the companionship of our beloved beagle, Cooper, who was especially attentive throughout her illness. Cooper’s quiet presence, long naps by her side, and unconditional love brought her peace during many difficult days. Heidi is now reunited in peace with her beloved dogs Cooper and Bubba who brought her so much happiness over the years. Heidi always said Cooper could tell she had cancer and always wanted to be near her.
Heidi will be remembered for her enormous heart, her resilience, her style, her generosity and compassion for others, her laughter and the love she gave so freely. Though cancer took far too much from her physically in her final years, it never diminished her spirit. She showed those around her what true courage looks like — continuing to love deeply, care for others, and find moments of grace even while enduring years of pain and uncertainty.
Heidi is survived by her loving husband Kyle Bryce Maroun; sons Logan Campbell Sutter (David Tejeda) and Tanner Allday Sutter (Dr. Sarah (Shipp) Sutter); daughter Jillian Alessia Maroun; sister Jennifer (Campbell) Fahey (Will Fahey); niece Cameron (McElroy) Mees (Zach Mees, children Nora and Declan); niece Kelsey (McElroy) Salvatoriello (Donato Salvatoriello); nephew Jackson Fahey; father Donald James Campbell; and bonus mother Linda Winters; Lou Maroun (Kathryn (Monroe) Maroun), Mary Lynn (MacKinlay) McIntosh (David McIntosh), Dr Derek Maroun (Courtney (Byrnes) Maroun) along with countless extended family members and cherished friends across the US and Canada whose lives were forever touched by her kindness and strength. Heidi is predeceased by her adored mother Sandra (Owen) Campbell.
Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, Heidi’s love, courage, and memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Immediate family and local friends will gather in Charlotte, NC this weekend to share their grief and her family is planning a larger celebration of Heidi’s life to be held in Charlotte, NC in August 2026. Her ashes will be spread in both Nova Scotia, Canada and Bermuda.
