John Bratton Wyant

The family of John Bratton Wyant is deeply saddened to announce his passing on August 12, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Born on April 3, 1956, in Orange, New Jersey, John lived an adventurous and full life. After growing up in Clearwater, Florida, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force while stationed in Texas. This military experience led him to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he spent his adult years working in the IT field.

John touched the hearts of everyone he met. He will always be remembered for his kindness, easy friendship, warm smile, and positive spirit. He was highly intelligent and generous, carrying a nature that was both protective and gentle.

An avid outdoorsman, John found great joy in camping, boating, and scuba diving. He possessed a lifelong passion for science, holding a particular fascination for marine biology and astronomy. Music also filled his world, shaping his everyday life both as a listener and as a talented musician. Professionally and personally, John seemed to know everything there was to know about computers, and he was always the first to share that knowledge to help someone in need. Among his favorite memories were his many cherished trips to the Florida Keys, spent alongside his sister Liza, his brother-in-law Jim Wobensmith, his nephew Johnny Wobensmith, and his niece Meghan Surles.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Weyland Wyant and Elizabeth Lane Hurd Wyant, in 2018.

He will be sorely missed every day by his entire family and the many close friends who became his extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced in the future.
