Judy Byrd Paxton

Mrs. Judy B. Paxton, 83, passed away on July 20, 2026.

Born on August 6, 1942, in Lancaster County, South Carolina, Judy was the daughter of the late Judson Amos Byrd and Mary Alice Cook Byrd. She was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was part of the first graduating class of South Mecklenburg High School.

Judy devoted many years to serving as the bookkeeper for her family’s automotive business. She shared 64 years and 364 days of marriage to her husband, Richard —just one day shy of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Their lifelong partnership was built on love, laughter, devotion, and most of all- patience.

Though small in stature, Judy was truly "tiny but mighty"—known for her strength, determination, and resilience. Judy loved beach music, and when the music started, she could shag dance with the best of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Alice Cook Byrd and Judson Amos Byrd, and her beloved son, Cameron Scott Paxton.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Richard Paxton; her daughter, Kristin Paxton-Shaw; her granddaughter, Paxton Oliphant and husband, Gilmore; and her treasured great-grandson, Gilmore Oliphant IV. She also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Judy's memory.

The family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time as they celebrate Judy's life and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
