Kate Buchanan Kelly

Kate Buchanan Kelly, a devoted mother, passed away on May 30, 2026, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Born on January 18, 1980, in Charlotte, North Carolina to William "Bill"  Kelly Sr. & Patricia Kelly.

Kate's educational journey began in her hometown, where she graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1998. Her pursuit of knowledge and service led her to Appalachian State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Resources in 2002. Kate worked as a preschool teacher, shaping the early learning experiences of many children. In addition to her career in education, she also worked as a waitress at Longhorn Steakhouse and Duckworths, where she was known for her warm demeanor and attentive service.

Kate was also an avid reader of self-improvement books, always striving to better herself and inspire those around her. She enjoyed engaging in reselling items on Facebook Marketplace in her spare time.

Kate was preceded in death by her father, William "Bill" Kelly Sr., as well as her maternal grandparents, William and Christine Buchanan.

Kate is lovingly remembered by her two children, Tucker Yates and Eleanor Batz; her mother, Patricia "Pat" Kelly; her brother, David Kelly; and her aunt, Elizabeth Buchanan, and a host of friends.

Her legacy lives on in her children and the many lives she touched through her work and her generosity of spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
