Roger Joseph Ouimet

December 7, 1943 — May 11, 2026

Roger Joseph Ouimet, born December 7, 1943, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026.

He was born into the loving family of Edouard and Adrienne (Cregher) Ouimet, who predeceased him. Roger’s journey brought him to the United States in 1964, where he pursued his passion for hockey. His skill on the ice led him to play for the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team from 1967 to 1970. After his memorable years in hockey, Roger transitioned into a career in sales and coaching youth hockey in Charlotte. He led the Charlotte Junior Checkers to several championships before retiring from coaching in 1976.

Roger had a deep passion for all sports. He was a fan of the Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Braves, and Charlotte Hornets. His true love was the game of golf, the sport that showcased his passion. He liked nothing more than sharing a round of golf with his many friends and family. He enjoyed the fellowship of golf for many years at Cedarwood Country Club where he played when it was a public course in the 1970’s before joining as a member in 1987. It was there that he made and shared many lasting memories with his numerous friends that included winning the Senior Club Championship and the Member-Member. After leaving Cedarwood in 2012, he still enjoyed playing the game of golf all over the greater Charlotte area, continuing to make friends everywhere he went.

He spent the last 25 years being the greatest grandfather he could be to his grandchildren. From the early years of watching his grandsons play baseball and attending his granddaughters dance recitals, to the later years watching them become young, successful adults. He loved them all very dearly and would do anything for them.

Additionally, he loved being a grandfather for all his grand dogs. They loved nothing more than to see Roger in their homes and he cherished every moment with them.

Roger's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vivian Ouimet, daughter Nicole (husband Shane Filliben) and their children Avery and Riley; and son Christian (wife Eva) and their children, Catherine and Connor. He is also survived by three siblings, seven nephews, and six nieces in the US and Canada. He was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Norman and Jacque.

Services will be held privately.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. It is asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to Charlotte Humane Society to support the adoption of rescued dogs.
